PEEKSKILL, N.Y. - Edward Burke, Edward Butler, Bob Crimi, John Sovjani will be exhibiting their works at Gallery 25N. This exhibition of landscape oil paintings is being presented from June 19th through July 18th, 2004 with a reception on Saturday, June 19th from 4:00 to 7:00pm.
Gallery 25N is a new gallery opening it doors with "A Sense of Place" as its first exhibition and is located at 25 North Division Street in Peekskill, NY. The gallery is open Friday through Sunday from 12:00 to 5:00pm and by appointment.
To the artist, a sense of place emanates from distant memories, fleeting impressions, or scenes that exist only in the subconscious mind. Like the remembrances in Proust's A la Recherche du Temps Perdu, these images of place have found their way onto canvas from the artists' distinctive interpretations of light and shadow, proximity and distance, observation and fantasy.
With varying palettes and aesthetics, the works offer contemplative depictions of nature through the eyes of four unique talents whose individual experiences define and shape the meaning of environment.
These four personal views of landscape illustrate a sense of place that ranges from the representational to the more abstract. A country lane, a city park, a reflection of a cloud in a lake - these landscapes are specific yet ubiquitous, allowing the viewer to impose his or her own sense of place.
