Gallery 25N is pleased to announce an exhibition of new paintings created specifically for this exhibit by Derek Reist.

Mr. Reist presents us with another series of strikingly powerful and emotionally engaging paintings that transform the mundane into a spectacular vision of New York City. The elegant forms and colors in his new work clearly demonstrate his belief in the power of light and shadow to transform the ordinary, and in the ability of fine art to represent this transformation in a way that moves the viewer.

Light to Mr. Reist is not a scientific element to be explored, but an emotional tool to be tested in the laboratory of memory. According to Mr. Reist: "Light's presence is fleeting but its imprint on the mind is unforgettable." Looking at his paintings is an active experience; meaning depends on the viewer's response to seemingly random street settings infused by the artist with remembered light and color. You only need to see one of Mr. Reist's powerful paintings to connect emotionally to the quiet elegance that conditions his body of work.
